EUROPEAN COMMISSION LAUNCHES €100 MILLION CALL FOR PROPOSALS UNDER ITS SECOND ACP-EU ENERGY FACILITY
Dec 2, 2009

The European Union on Monday launched a new call for energy proposals under its second ACP-EU Energy Facility, with a total budget of 100 million Euros.

The call is a two-step process: Applicants will submit a short concept note, for assessment by an evaluation committee. Those projects selected will pass to the second stage, when proponents will be invited to submit detailed project proposals.

The call is divided into two components:

  • Component 1 includes projects to increase access to modern, affordable and sustainable energy services for poor in rural and peri-urban areas with a special focus on decentralised and renewable energy solutions as well as on energy efficiency measures;
  • Component 2 includes actions to improve governance and framework conditions in the energy sector at regional, national and local levels, in particular those aimed at promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The ACP-EU Energy Facility is a co-financing instrument established in 2005 to support projects on increasing access to sustainable and affordable energy services in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
